University of Iceland – A Fruitful Cooperation throughout 2016 - 10.1.2017

Matís cooperated well and successfully with the University of Iceland (UI) in 2016 with a formal collaboration agreement on teaching and research. The cooperation is not new; UI and Matís have worked together for almost 40 years now.

3rd annual MareFrame meeting in Sicily - 13.12.2016

MareFrame third annual meeting will take place in Palermo on the beautiful island of Sicily December 14th-15th. Dr. Anna Kristín Daníelsdóttir from Matís is the co-ordinator of the project. The main objective of MareFrame is to significantly increase the use of the ecosystem-based approach to fisheries management (EAFM) when providing advice relating to the management of European fish stocks.

Fish Super Chilling Project receives award - 6.12.2016

The Fish Super Chilling Project is a collaborative effort of 3X Technology, Iceprotein, FISK Seafood, Skaginn, Grieg Seafood in Norway, Hätälä in Finland, Norway Seafood in Denmark and Matís with support from Nordic Innovation and The Icelandic Centre for Research (Rannís). The project's underlying idea was selected as an Outstanding Concept of the Seafood Conference 2016, winning the Svifaldan Prize at the conference, which was held in November.


Interesting article on the self-assessment of sustainability in the fisheries sector - 5.12.2016

Not long ago a very interesting article was published on Nofima's web site. The article was about a new standard for self-assessment of sustainability in the fisheries sector as a new European standard allows small fishing companies to perform self-assessment of the sustainability of their catches. The standard can help companies in documenting environmental, social and economic sustainability, and give estimates of the emission of CO2 per kg caught fish.

Visit from the Research Executive Agency to Matís for SAF21 project - 1.12.2016

Members from Research Executive Agency (REA) of the European Commission are now visiting Matís to monitor the progress of Marie Skłodowska-Curie Action (MSCA-ETN program) Individual Fellowships (IF) projects that are currently ongoing as part of the Horizon 2020 project SAF21 (project nr. 642080).

Innovation has transformed fish processing into a high-tech industry that uses advanced systems and software to get the fish from the sea to the supermarket.

The PrimeFish project launches a video competition on seafood consumption - 23.11.2016

In order to increase the public awareness on seafood consumption, the H2020 project PrimeFish launches a competition to support the creation of videos linked to the seafood consumption and all of its cultural, societal and economic relevance. Everybody over 18 years old is encouraged to participate with a 1 minute length video. Participants will be competing for a prize of 1,500 euros and the opportunity to film a video in an H2020 research meeting!
